Draft. These terms are a starting point, not legal advice. They need your trading details and a solicitor's eye before the service takes real money.

Terms of service

Who we are

NinthYard is a subscription service that posts secondhand books to addresses in the United Kingdom. Contact: [email protected].

To add: trading name, company number if incorporated, registered address.

What you are buying

A recurring delivery of one secondhand book, chosen for you by us, at the frequency you select. You are not choosing individual titles, and we do not guarantee that any particular book, author, or genre will be sent.

Books are secondhand and sold as such. We describe condition honestly and will not send a book that is unreadable, but wear, previous owners' markings, and pencilled prices are expected.

Price and payment

Prices are shown per delivery and include UK postage. Payment is taken by Stripe on a recurring basis at the frequency you chose. We never see or store your card details.

If a payment fails we may pause deliveries until it succeeds. We will tell you before doing so.

Changing, pausing, and cancelling

You can change frequency, pause, or cancel at any time from your account. There is no minimum term and no notice period. Cancelling stops future payments; it does not refund a delivery already sent.

Your right to cancel

Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations you have 14 days from receiving your first book to cancel for a refund. Because each delivery is a physical book, we ask that it is returned in the condition it arrived.

To confirm: who pays return postage, and the returns address.

If something goes wrong

If a book arrives damaged, or is one you already own, tell us and we will replace it. Duplicates are our error to fix — avoiding them is the point of the service.

Your account

Access is by a link sent to your email address. Keep control of that inbox: anyone who can read it can sign in as you. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has access.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change materially affects what you are paying for, we will email you before it takes effect.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes fall to the courts of England and Wales. Nothing here removes your statutory rights as a consumer.
